I have run a studio for over fifteen years, starting simple with one microphone and a wave editor, where I eventually chose to studio Audio Engineering for two years in Bangor, Maine, dropping out for my own creative and artistic (and personal) reasons — eventually moving back to Bar Harbor, where I started recording more songs, and producing more tracks for other artists. What I learned over the seven years following my classes at Audio school, is that I learned everything I needed to as an artist, and almost definitely as a producer. I have no concept (in my mind) that anyone needs a degree, or any form of certification in order to profess in the field of sound or music, in especial when they are an artist themselves.
